2017 4-H Updates

4H-ers continue to have fun and grow across all of Lucas County

 Here are just a few of the highlights from 2017:

2017 Cloverbud Camp

  • Cloverbud camp partnered with Master Gardeners, Anthony Wayne FFA, Northwest Ohio Beekeepers, and Lucas County Farm Bureau to present “Things That go Buzzzzz”, an interactive hands-on learning experience for youth ages 5-7 years old.
  • The day camp immersed youth into how live in the world around them harmoniously with bugs, bees, and other things that go buzzzzzzz.

2017 National 4-H Shooting Sports Competition

  • 5 Lucas County 4-H’ers along with the Lucas County 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator spent a week in Grand Island Nebraska competing against youth from all over the United States.
  • Youth competed in the areas of archery, shotgun, rifle, muzzleloader, and pistol.

2017 Lucas County Fair

  • Over 150 4-H Youth participated in the 159th Lucas County Fair in projects ranging from Livestock to rocketry.
  • Lucas County 4-H had several projects that advanced to the Ohio State Fair in a variety of projects both Livestock and non-livestock.
  • For the third year in a row Lucas County had the Clock Trophy Winner in the Muzzleloader class.
  • The Clock Trophy Award is the highest honor at the State Fair in non-livestock categories.

2017 4-H Residential Camp

  • Area youth ages 8-14 spend 5 days and 4 nights at 4-H Camp Palmer in Northern Fulton County.
  • Led by a teen counselor team youth spent the week exploring nature, building social & emotional skills, and making new friends.
  • The teen counselor team had 24 hours of comprehensive training to lead the campers in an educational and safe outdoor environment.
