Ohio State University Extension is pleased to partner with University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to share free Smartphones, Smart Families Survival Kits. You will be asked to share your name, email address, age range of the children and agree to complete a short online survey about a month after you receive your toolkit. You will have the option to recieve a $5 gift card for completing the survey. OSU Extension, Lucas County will share dates and times to pick up the family toolkits in spring and summer of 2026.

The free kit contains practical items to help your family including:

  • Family agreement for smart screen use
  • Priorities of smart families magnet
  • Sketch pad and colored pencils
  • Deck of activity cards
  • Bedside clock
  • Technology "sleep" sack bag

Pick up your technology kit at the OSU Extension, Lucas County office:

Our office is located on the grounds of the Toledo Botanical Garden at 5403 Elmer Drive, Toledo, Ohio. When you turn into the botanical garden off of Elmer Drive, turn right into the first parking lot. Our office is the second "house" on at the address. It is gray and has a sign for OSU Extension, Lucas County. 

  • Friday, May 8th, 10am - 1pm. In addition to picking up your technology kit, know that this is also the weekend of the May Sale at The Artist Village at Toledo Botanical Garden and the Annual Mother's Day Plant Sale right next door at the Toledo Public Schools Natural Science Technology Center (NSTC). 
  • Thursday, June 4th, 1:00 - 4:00pm
