    As Ohio’s population grows more urban, it is hard  for people to make the connection to nature, allowing them to value their local natural resources, and  have a reason to manage and conserve them for future generations.  The OCVN program is a research-based scientific training program that emphasizes hands on natural-resource education coupled with community-based volunteer service.  The program embraces conservation, but is not an advocacy group.

    While local foods in Ohio are abundant all year, we recognize this week as a time to highlight all the local food options in our region.OSU Extension, Lucas County will kick-off the week on August 8th, Sneak a Zucchini on Your Neighbor's Porch at the Toledo Farmers' Market.     What's your favorite garden holiday? The OSU Extension, Lucas County office is continuing the annual tradition of celebrating the summer holiday of "Sneak a Zucchini on Your Neighbor's Porch" on August 8th. Join us in this fun seasonal festivity. We will have a table at the Toledo Farmers' Market with recipes and ideas for enjoying this event.

    Northwest Ohio Green Industry Summer Session is a local, high-quality, educational event attended by nearly 200 industry professionals.  Presented by OSU Extension, Lucas County, Owens Community College; NOLGA; and the Green Industry Educational Committee; the Summer Field Day offers educational sessions for garden center employees, landscapers, turf manager, supervisory staff, and Master Gardeners  It is an opportunity to earn recertification pesticide credits, network, and learn more!

    The Ohio 4-H State Leadership Camp is the premiere leadership development opportunity available to Ohio 4-H members. The focus of the five-day leadership experience is the development of concrete peer leadership skills that will enable participants to have an immediate impact in their home 4-H club, county, community, or school. The camp is active and engaged—there’s very little sitting and listening, and much opportunity for group interaction. Participants leave the camp ready to take on new challenges—after they take an afternoon nap.

    Come join us for the day and learn about the 4-H program and participate in fun activities on topics relating to natural resources, gardening, nutrition, STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), livestock and small animals.  The cost is $5.  Lunch, drinks, snacks, picture and a camp T-shirt will be provided.  Registration deadline is May 27, 2015.
