    What to learn more about the Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Program? Interesting in learning more about the program, have your questions answered, and receive an application? Two informational meetings will be held on Tuesday, October 24 at the Toledo Botanical Garden's Conference Center in the Stable's Room. The meetings will be held from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, and 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm. You only need to attend one of the sessions. Participants will receive a packet of information including an application, timeline and 2018 class schedule.

    Come learn about oak trees. We will discuss the different type of oaks trees that grow in our region and characteristic of each species. We will be reviewing proper planting and important maintenance practices. We will also be discussing potential pest threats including gypsy moth and oak wilt. The program is open to the public and free. Doors open at 6:30 pm.     Come explore Woodlawn Cemetery looking at trees! This monthly walk provides an insight to the trees planted and cared for in the cemetery, that is also an arboretum. Walkers will see common and not so common trees that will grow in NW Ohio. Walks will be held rain or shine - so dress for the weather!     Gypsy moth caterpillars have been making their presence known in some NW Ohio areas this summer. Their intense feeding has literally made leaves and needles disappear as the caterpillar damage became evident to even the casual observer. “While the actual caterpillar feeding is complete, the adult moths are being noticed, and people are interested in learning more,” said Amy Stone, Extension Educator in Lucas County.

    Are you in the green industry and looking for credits? Want to learn the latest and greatest information that can be useful in your business?  Save money?  Increase profits?  You can do all of this, and not leave NW Ohio!  This training is an opportunity that you don't have to travel great distances to participate.  The program begins with registration at 11:00 am.  This later starts allows you and the crews to work a partial day, before heading to the program where a box lunch is included in the cost of the registration.  What a deal!
