Cost $50, check or money order (sorry, we cannot accept electronic payment at this time)

Homebuyer receives:

  • Homebuyer's Guide
  • Chooses timing of completion of the Homebuyer's Guide and schedules a one-hour phone conference with the Extension Educator
  • One hour, one-on-one review of the homebuyer's guide and plans into the future for successful homeownership with the Extension Educator (this is frequently scheduled as a phone call; if the homebuyer is interested in meeting face-to-face at a library in Lucas County, that can be arranged as well)
  • Homebuyer’s Education Certificate of Completion, good for one year

How to set up the self-study class: please contact Patrice Powers-Barker and mention if you are working with USDA Rural Development or a different program. Patrice is often at scheduled programming or meeting with a homebuyer so please leave a message if she's not in. The amount of time for completion for the homebuyer self-study class is determined by the schedule and pace of the homebuyer. The whole process will take at least a few days to a week but if the homebuyer is in the beginning stages of the loan process, they can choose to take as long as they would like to complete the workbook and schedule the call/meeting. Pay by: $50 check or money order made out to: OSU Extension, Lucas County. This class operates a little bit differently than the homebuyers education through the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA). In that case, the homebuyer starts with OHFA and then takes the online homebuyer's class for free. At the end of the OFFA on-line test, choose OSU Extension, Lucas County for the follow-up homebuyer's phone call.
