OSU Extension, Lucas County offers first-time homebuyers education in partnership with Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA). This is considered an “on-line” class although it includes a one-hour phone call.

All questions about the loan programs should be directed to the organization you are working with. We are happy to help with questions related to household budgeting, planning for homeownership, and taking a homebuyers class required by the partner organization.

OSU Extension Online Homebuyer Education Program

Ohio State University Extension hosts an online self-paced homebuyer eduation course. Upon completion of the course, the homebuyer will be connected with a Certified HUD counselor. This online class, powered by Framework, does not qualify homebuyers for a loan product. It does satisfy the homebuyer education requirement for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and your lender's mortgage products.

This course also meets all HUD and Housing Counseling Program requirements for homebuyer education and exceeds the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling.

The $75 course fee covers both the borrower and co-borrower. Once the course is purchased you will receive an email with course access information within two business days. After the 4 hour online class, you'll be conneted with one of OSU Extension's HUD-certified housing counselors for a one-on-one follow-up call. Register here for the OSU Extension Online Homebuyer Education Program.
